Dr. Fuentes

Dr. Javier M. Fuentes, originally from San Gil, Colombia, earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from La Salle University in Bogotá in 1992. Afterward, he completed a one-year internship in various veterinary specialties in the Colombian Amazon, working with small animals, exotic pets, large animals, and pursuing his interest in animal reproduction and surgery.

Dr. Fuentes then earned his MBA and later co-founded a veterinary hospital in Bogotá with his wife, Ana, a fellow veterinarian. His career also led him to academia, where he pursued a Master of Science and PhD in Parasitology, eventually becoming an associate professor at La Salle University.

In search of a peaceful environment, Dr. Fuentes and Ana moved to South Florida, where they now raise their two children, Nicholas and Emily, who share a love for animals. They have three cats—Perry, Tata, and Rafa—and two dogs—Morgan and Charlie.

For the last 15 years, Dr. Fuentes has specialized in veterinary dentistry, oral surgery, and exotic animal medicine, earning certification from the International Veterinary Dentistry Institute. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Dental Society, and American Heartworm Association. In 2022, he founded Veterinary Dental Services to better serve South Florida’s pets with complex dental needs.

In his free time, Dr. Fuentes enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, reading, mountain biking, and volunteering at the Sawgrass Nature Center to repair injured turtles and tortoises. He also practices avian, exotic, and wildlife medicine.
